COLOMBIA — NATURAL
Not quite like any coffee you’ve had before.
Eugenioides is one of the rarest coffee species in the world and one of the two parent species of Arabica, alongside Coffea canephora (Robusta). Naturally low in caffeine and remarkably high in perceived sweetness, Eugenioides offers a completely different sensory experience from conventional specialty coffee.
This particular lot comes from Finca Inmaculada in Pichindé, Valle del Cauca, Colombia, a farm internationally recognised for producing exceptional and experimental coffees. Inmaculada has played an important role in bringing Eugenioides to the attention of the specialty coffee world, demonstrating just how different coffee can taste beyond the familiar Arabica varieties.
The flavour profile is almost difficult to associate with coffee. Expect pronounced sweetness reminiscent of cotton candy and roasted marshmallows, with a soft, delicate structure, remarkably little bitterness and a smooth finish.
Due to its unusual characteristics, we also like to use Eugenioides as a supplement to other coffees. Adding just 2.5 grams of Eugenioides to 10 grams of a clean, washed Gesha can noticeably increase the perceived sweetness of the final cup while maintaining much of the original coffee’s character.
This is not an everyday coffee. It’s something to experience, explore and occasionally share with someone who thinks they already know what coffee can taste like.
Produced in extremely limited quantities, this is a rare opportunity to experience one of coffee’s most fascinating species.
Roasted on the 14th of October.
Note that the Weber Workshop Bean cellar has no label.
